A Day of Shopping and Delights in Bellagio, Italy

During our three-night pre-cruise stay in Lake Como, before embarking on the AmaSerena in Basel, we had the incredible opportunity to spend a day in the enchanting town of Bellagio. Known as the “Pearl of Lake Como,” Bellagio truly lived up to its reputation with its charm, beauty, and unforgettable experiences.

Our morning began with a scenic boat ride across the shimmering waters of Lake Como, leaving from Como and making our way to Bellagio. Along the way, our guide pointed out some of the area’s most famous sights. We cruised past George Clooney’s villa—and as luck would have it, he was home! We also passed by the stunning lakeside mansion featured in many films, including Star Wars, which was a thrill to see in person. With the gorgeous backdrop of mountains and villas, the journey across the lake was every bit as magical as our time ashore.

Once we arrived in Bellagio, we enjoyed a brief guided tour through its charming cobblestone streets. Our guide recommended La Pisana Restaurant and kindly made reservations for those interested in dining there. Knowing we wanted a memorable meal, we requested a table on the second floor with sweeping lake views, but not before giving ourselves plenty of time to shop.

And shop we did! We wandered through Bellagio’s winding lanes and soon discovered Alimentari da Caio, a delightful little grocery store brimming with local specialties. It was the perfect stop for goodies to take home, and the warmhearted owners even posed for photos with our trusty Cruise Planners mascot, Maxx. From there, we continued exploring until we found I Vetri di Bellagio, a sparkling boutique filled with jewelry made entirely from authentic Murano glass. I couldn’t resist a necklace for myself and adorable earrings for my daughter—keepsakes that will always remind us of our day in Bellagio.

With our shopping bags in tow, we headed to La Pisana Restaurant for lunch. Our second-floor table was everything we hoped for, offering panoramic views of Lake Como. Surrounded by our new treasures, we enjoyed what turned out to be the best meal we had in all of Italy—a true highlight of the trip.

After lunch, we strolled along Bellagio’s scenic waterfront, soaking in the atmosphere one last time before boarding the water taxi back. From breathtaking villas on the lake to hidden shops and exquisite dining, Bellagio gave us a day to remember—one we’d happily repeat in a heartbeat.
